Jenny Wightwick, Ash House, Sat & Sun.
For many years, Jenny worked with textiles expressing her ideas with surface texture and mark making. In 2013 she gained a BA (Hons) in 3 Dimensional Design from Manchester Metropolitan University, where she became intrigued with the possibilities of clay - exploring, investigating and manipulating.
Jenny's source ideas come from simple drawings of natural forms, capturing a simplicity of line and a sense of balance which is then transformed in clay. Ideas develop and evolve, and a body of work is made which has balance and harmony with the natural world.
Hand rolled slabs of clay are made and manipulated into desired forms with marks and colours applied to the surface using a selection of drawing tools, slips and underglazes. The desired clay is stoneware which is high fired and glazed. The work is often functional, but one off pieces are also made with a fine art appeal.
