I qualified as an architect after spending time at sea trawling in the West Country. I began the metalwork sculpture after we moved to Fiveways in Brighton and joined the
Fiveways Artists group, opening our house at 202 Ditchling Road as "Art at 202". I have worked with recycled metal materials for many years, whether stainless steel, CorTen steel or copper. Lockdown triggered a project to explore more with chemicals to develop effects on copper. (In collaboration with my partner Polly Raynes a trained artist).
We experimented with waxes to expand the range of texture and pattern which has taken us into a brand-new direction. The amazing colour of bright copper and blue/greens from the verdigris begged for making a kingfisher, as we love watching the bright flashes of this gorgeous little bird flitting about during our river walks. This verdigris process is also applied to various flowers, seed heads, leaf designs and also
underwater mammals and fish.
